JVC HAFX66A Air Cushion Headphones
- Sold Individually
Product Description
JVC research shows that consumers’ biggest problem with in-ear headphones is their tendency to fall out. The HA-FX66 headphones tackle that problem by using a soft silicon rubber air cushion for the earpiece body. In addition, the headphones come with three different size silicon rubber and memory foam cushion earpieces for the best possible fit. The result is an in-ear headphone that stays securely in place while remaining comfortable. What’s more, the design also provides superior isolation from background noise, allowing the user to get the most out of the headphone’s 8.5mm neodymium driver. Noise caused by cord movement is also minimized because of the headphone’s Friction Noise Reduction Cord vibration-proof structure…. More >>

Well the highs come in clearly all right. Waaay too clearly. These earphones are all about treble, and no bass – at least out of the box. I have others sets of earphones made by other manufacturers, running from inexpensive to some very nice ones. And some very nice headphones too. None of them need any equalization to reflect the sound of the music correctly. But without an equalizer, these phones have no bass at all, and the treble is extremely bright. At first, I thought there was something wrong with them, but that is just the way they are. I know this because I bought two sets, and they are both the same. By turning the bass all the way up on Windows media player equalizer, and turning the treble about 6 db down, they sound about right. My hearing is pretty good, and maybe others aren’t so sensitive to the high frequencies, so these might sound good to them as-is. But I plugged them into a desktop radio that sounds amazing with all my other phones, and these sound terrible – the highs are just too pronounced. So be sure whatever you are planning to use with them has a decent equalizer. Otherwise you might be disappointed.
I do have to say that the “carrying case” is nice and compact. The multiple sets of earpiece cushions are also very nice – especially the memory foam. You can get a good fit no matter what size your ears are. I bought these primarily because they promised a good fit, and that they do. But the sound quality was taken for granted, and I shouldn’t have done that. Too bad.

Really great sound for the money! These stay in place much better for me than standard silicone buds. Not bass-heavy, but well-rounded, which I prefer since i listen to a variety of music.

I just can’t believe how this earbuds sound. I have tried everything: JVC Gummy, JVC marshmallow, SkullCandy Smokin’Buds and Ultimate Ear Superfi 3. The best earbuds I have are the Superfi, sound is natural and bass sounds normal. The HAFX66 pack a punch in bass, sounds like you have a sub woofer inside your head (could it be the design? or how they seat in the ear?)….but highs and mids are clear, not like the Smokin’ Buds bass enhanced earbuds.
Metallica’s Death Magnetic sounds without the distortion I hear in the other earbuds, and yes you can notice Trujillo with this earbuds. 80’s synth pop comes alive again with this JVC. Haven’t tried classical yet.
For the price here in Amazon you got to get one before people find out how good sounding they are. I have seen prices going up…
Update: I bought them from Amazon (different SKU) on September 2008. The left earbud died on Feb. 2009. Called JVC support and they send me a new pair immediately…. WOW!!!! These buds have 1 year warranty.

This is the second set of these headphones I have purchased. The first set I still have after breaking the wire by accident. I liked them so much that I spliced them back together because they were out of stock in the store where I originally purchased them. When I saw them on Amazon I purchased another pair immediately. They are very comfortable with excellent bass tone and crisp highs and they block out any outside noise. I use them while riding my motorcycle and can hardly hear the engine, thats really saying something.

Although these are not noise canceling ear buds, they work very well at blocking out background noise. I use these at work and they help muffle the neighboring conversations around me.
The build quality is very good. I like the extra ear bud pieces included. The case is of so-so design but I just wrap the cord around my media player anyway. The sound is also very good. Highs and lows are reproduced accurately.
You can’t beat the price on this JVC ear bud set.
